Norfolk Southern Emergency Bridge, Salem, VA

Gregori Construction was called in for an emergency bridge rebuild in Salem, VA. The existing bridge was damaged in a train derailment. Gregori Construction repaired and rebuilt foundations and piers and abutments around the clock for three weeks to put this three span bridge structure back in service. The replacement spans were previously built and in storage at a local yard. The pick for the main span was a tandem pick that consisted of a 500 Ton Crawler Crane (362,000 lbs of counterweight) and a 550 Ton Hydraulic Crane with Megawings. The main span weighed 207,000 lbs w/ ties & plates. It was a huge effort and one that certainly will go down in history as one of the largest logistical undertakings of any Gregori Construction team. To date we have spent 3000 man hours and the trains are back in service. 4,000 Tons of Stone was used to build the causeway. The precast blocks weighed 68,000 lbs.
